‘Cash to Compete’ Promotion Aimed at World’s Best

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, Dubai Surf and Kayak Club (DSKC) has announced details of the 2007 Dubai Shamaal, an international surf ski event featuring many of the world’s best paddlers.

Promoted by Dubai-based Driving Force under the patronage of Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC), this year’s event will take the growing sport to a greater level in the UAE when it is staged at Le Meridien Mina Seyahi on 30 November 2007.

As well as total prize-money fund of $35,000, a ‘cash to compete’ promotion will ensure the best in the world are encouraged to make the trip to the Gulf. Aimed at enticing the best to show their talents over the waters of the Arabian Gulf, the promotion allows for travel and subsistence money to be offered to the top three finishers in the world’s five major international races.

The move is seen as going a long way to help ensure the world’s top fifteen competitors make the journey to Dubai, while the ‘Anchor man’ promotion offers the unique prize of return tickets to Dubai, five star hotel accommodation, access to activities such as fishing, diving, sailing and desert driving, tickets to the Dubai Rugby 7s, and the chance to win the world’s fastest and lightest ski, the EPIC ultra elite V10 valued at $6,500.

The Dubai Shamaal will form a key part of the Sea Dubai Water Sports Festival, which includes Class One and Three powerboat racing, Dragon boat racing, and jetski and aqua bike racing – all on the same weekend as the famous Dubai Rugby 7s.

DSKC Chairman Wayne Randall said he was delighted at the support from the Dubai International Marine Club and promised all visiting paddlers a memorable time in Dubai.

He also encouraged surf skiers or anyone interested in taking up the sport to visit www.surfski.info and www.dubaishamaal.com for more information. “We are always delighted to welcome newcomers to the sport as well as those who have been bitten by the surf ski bug” he added.
